HerdVision is an advanced 3D online monitoring system designed to ‘scan cows’.
It’s quite revolutionary in the industry and has been well received.

The Challenge

To create a visual identity, brand, app interface and responsive website design.

This needed to have a similar look and feel to AviaSenze whilst being different enough.

My Thinking

Simplicity.

The main target audience of the software used with HerdVision was farmers, and they often are quite simple people who don’t need all the bells and whistles that a very modern society can bring nowadays (this was also cemented from the user research that was undertaken at the start of the project). They just need access to their data and quickly which is why the website is a single 1 page scrolling site, and the app/dashboard display are very ‘basic’ – it shows the information in a quick and easy way.

The Solution

Using clean design, simple iconography and full colour imagery to produce modernised assets that was suitable for both investors and the target audience.

Having a cohesive feel from all touch points including the website, app and online dashboard was important. The icons are used throughout all aspects so familiarity to the farmers means it’s easy for them to understand.

From undertaking group research, it was decided that they wanted the app to be very striped back and literally just show the information they would need whilst they’re on the farm (aka the stats when the cows were scanned), the majority of them have very basic phones so clear large icons were important. Using icons and colours to highlight which of the cows needed attention there and then was also key and not just relying on either an icon or colour was considered from an accessibility point of view.

The dashboard meant the user could log in and see a more in-depth overview of their herd with the same icons used for consistency. With 2 or 3 different ways to view the same information this meant that those who were more technically savvy could do a deeper dive should they have wanted.

The Outcome

A simple modern single page scrolling responsive website design with clean iconography, alongside an app and dashboard view which all have a consistent feel.

The app was tested with the end user to gain their feedback throughout and ensure it was displaying the information that they required (this was a learning curve for me as not only did I not know a huge amount about measuring cows, I also needed to understand how the app would be used by the farmers).

Design mobile first is important, over 80% of data nowadays is accessed on the go. Ensuring the design was clean and visual was key.

Herdvisions app concepts taking into account that the majority of users want their buttons/icons at the bottom of the screen so they are easy access. and as this was designed for farmer’s on the go/in their fields the information was stripped down so it was easy to identify the problem cows at a glance with a traffic light system.

Dashboard designs showcasing the same information that can be found on the app however more of an overview and more detailed.
