Branding is important.
Board games are important.

Cancer I’m sure has affected every single person whether directly or indirectly, and I’m incredibly lucky to be able to give something back.

I’m part of a group of volunteers who run a board game day in Lancaster, yearly raising money for Prostate Cancer. Over the last 10 years we’ve raised over 10K.

The Challenge

To create a logo and brand that could be used predominately on social media to promote the charity day. This had to include the Prostate Cancer Blue and have a link back to the original logo.

My Thinking

The original Prostate Cancer logo has a male figure outline containing many male silhouettes undertaking different tasks and highlighting all abilities.

Being heavily influenced from this logo I decided to put a board game spin on it, after all at the heart of the event is board games.

The Solution

Well known in the board community is the ‘Meeple’ (the words ‘my’ and ‘people’ combined), this can be found in many board games from Carcassonne through to variations using ‘Animeeples (animal shaped Meeples’) like Everdell or New York Zoo.

Using the Meeple as an outline I filled the shape with as many board game components as I could, from classics such as dice and chess pieces all the way through to more niche games like Root and Azul – showing that as a gaming community we don’t discriminate on your gaming level.

The Outcome

A group of consistent assets to be used throughout Facebook groups, social media posts and in future merchandise.

The amount of comments I have received from creating the logo, which I must admit was one of my favourite pieces of work to create – being able to combine both my love of board gaming and being part of a solid community as well as my creative skills.

I have had many people, especially on the day trying to identify the pieces or what game they’re from.

Can you name any?

The logo is truly the best thing that anyone has ever done for the event. You should be so proud of it and I’m eternally grateful you gave up so much of your time for free. There’s not enough thanks I can give. The logo will stay for a very long time, if not forever.
